Infrastructure & Public Services

Current Situation: In our country, there are no meters for gas or water usage. As a result, there is significant waste of gas and water. Many families leave the gas stove on after cooking. Water overflows from taps, and people often ignore it. Unnecessary use of water continues, leading to wastage. Thus, the nation’s resources are being wasted. Problem: The wastage of gas and water is a major issue. Excessive misuse of these resources will create pressure on the nation’s citizens in the future. Gas stoves left on cause fire hazards in many areas. Water overflow and wastage also harm neighboring households. Proposal: Each household must use separate meters for gas and water, similar to electricity meters. Meters for gas and water can be standardized for all families. Installations can be financed through bank loans or installments. This proposal must be made mandatory for implementation in every area. Consumers who violate this regulation should face penalties and necessary legal actions. Benefits: If implemented, this proposal will enhance the nation’s progress. It will prevent the misuse of gas and water. People will manage their expenses more efficiently. Natural resources will not be wasted, and the country's development will accelerate. Gas and water wastage in Bangladesh will significantly decrease.

The connection points of main roads and side roads are referred to as the main road entrances. Below is a discussion on this matter. Current Situation: In our country, many main roads have connections with side roads at regular intervals. These side roads merge into the main roads at an incline. When small vehicles use these sloped roads to enter the main road, they often collide with larger vehicles already traveling on the main road. While small vehicles attempt to stop and look at both sides of the main road before entering, the incline causes them to roll backward. As a result, they accelerate to climb the slope, leading to collisions with larger vehicles already on the main road. Currently, there are no stop signs at these connection points or entrances of the main roads and side roads. Problem: The absence of stop signs at main road entrances and the lower, sloped nature of side roads compared to main roads cause vehicles from side roads to speed up without stopping as they enter main roads. This often leads to collisions with vehicles already traveling on the main roads. This has become a significant issue for road safety. Due to this problem, accidents are increasing daily, causing injuries and fatalities among passengers, drivers, and other workers. Almost all passengers traveling on side roads and main roads remain anxious. Most of the current accidents are caused by these side roads. Proposal: There must be stop signs at the connection points of side roads and main road entrances. Vehicles coming from side roads must come to a complete stop at the stop signs and check both directions for oncoming traffic before entering the main road. Any vehicle violating this rule should be immediately fined. Side roads must not have steeper slopes than the main roads, so vehicles can effectively stop at the stop signs. The stop signs should be placed at side roads and main roads at a minimum elevation of 100 yards and must not have a slope behind them. Benefits: Installing stop signs at main road entrances will ensure that vehicles from side roads come to a complete stop at the signs, and vehicles on the main road can move without any disruption. This will eliminate the possibility of accidents at these locations.

**Current Situation:** In our country, most highway or main road patrol police are not well-versed in traffic laws. They randomly stop and inspect vehicles without ensuring compliance with road rules. They fail to monitor where vehicles should stop, the required speed limits, or whether drivers are following traffic rules. Additionally, they lack equipment to measure vehicle speed. They do not properly inspect critical components such as brakes, brake lights, headlights, and indicator lights. **Problem:** Due to the highway police's lack of knowledge about traffic laws, drivers operate vehicles recklessly on the roads. They violate speed limits and traffic regulations, resulting in frequent accidents. Traffic congestion is increasing, and long-distance vehicles are unable to reach their destinations on time. **Proposal:** All highway patrol police must be made aware of traffic laws and receive proper training on them. Any police officer who lacks knowledge of traffic laws should not be allowed to perform highway duty. Drivers who violate traffic laws on the highway should have legal cases filed against their licenses, and faulty vehicles should also face legal actions. In case of an accident, highway police should investigate the incident on-site, identify the faulty vehicle, and prepare a report based on the findings. If patrol police are found accepting bribes from guilty drivers and this is proven, they should face a minimum sentence of 10 years, up to the death penalty, and confiscation of their assets. **Benefits:** When all highway police are trained in traffic laws, no driver will be able to operate vehicles outside the regulations. Traffic accidents and congestion on the roads will be significantly reduced. Faulty vehicles will no longer be allowed on the roads, and drivers will operate vehicles more cautiously.

P.I.P insurance refers to Personal Injury Protection and must be used for the protection of injured individuals. Current Situation: Most vehicle owners in our country do not have P.I.P insurance. If any accident occurs on the road, vehicle operations come to a halt. Problem: Vehicles and their owners receive no compensation in case of an accident. Often, the owners cannot afford to repair the vehicles, leaving them unused. The owners are left in a financially vulnerable position, while workers and passengers lack safety and security for their lives. Proposal: All vehicle owners must be mandated to have P.I.P insurance. In the event of a road accident, insurance coverage must be provided to compensate both the general public and the transportation service. Roads should always remain suitable for vehicle movement. No one should obstruct roads or create traffic jams by stopping vehicles. Vehicles must not be stopped unnecessarily. Highway police should verify insurance along with other vehicle documents properly and take necessary measures. Benefits: No vehicle will remain stopped due to road accidents. Traffic flow will not be interrupted. There will be proper arrangements for compensating victims of accidents, both general public and transportation services. No traffic jams will occur on roads. Passengers will be able to reach their destinations on time.
